Jointly developed by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Foreign Economic Cooperation Office (FECO) of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China, with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), POPs Hunter is an interactive learning game that promotes knowledge of the Stockholm Convention with games and fun!
POPs are a series of specific toxic chemicals that persist in the environment, bio-accumulate, and travel long distances.
The Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants is a global treaty designed to protect human health and the environment by eliminating or reducing POPs. The Convention allows any party to submit a proposal for listing a new chemical. Experts from the Convention’s Secretariat hold annual meetings to examine and evaluate the proposed chemicals.
Once confirmed that the substance matches the characteristics of a POP, it will be incorporated into the Convention’s controlled list. These nasty chemicals will continue to increase in number unless we take action now to eliminate them!
Through years of continuous effort, China has made an outstanding contribution towards eliminating POPs.
